Calgary to see colder temperatures until next week

Calgary weather gets cold Calgary can expect another few days of cold weather. Jodi Hughes has a look at the five-day forecast from the Sky Watch Weather Centre.

A stagnant weather pattern will support the flow of Arctic air toward the U.S. Midwest over the next few days.

Extreme cold warnings could be issued from Environment and Climate Change Canada late Thursday as windchill values in northern Alberta are forecast to reach values of at least -40 by Friday morning.

Scattered flurries fell early Thursday in central and southern Alberta, including Calgary.

As of 7:30 a.m., 511 Alberta was displaying compromised road conditions along many secondary and main highways.

Snow-covered and icy road conditions were also visible on many 511 Alberta and Drive BC highway cameras.

A strong ridge of high pressure is expected to move into the north Pacific basin over the weekend, and will help dislodge this cooler pattern, but not before more snow impacts southern B.C. and southern Alberta on Friday.

Daytime highs in Calgary will max out around -13 C to -16 C over the next few days.

By early next week that ridge of high pressure will drive daytime highs as warm as 5 C, with lows of -3 C to -1 C.

The average range this time of year is -3 C for a high and -15 C for a low.
