Water levels at Chestermere Lake are getting back to normal after the canal that feeds it was closed Friday due to an oil spill. Residents say there was a noticeable drop in the canal and the lake’s water levels over the weekend. The hydrocarbon spill was detected upstream within the region’s irrigation canal system, and it was traced back to Calgary’s storm water system. As a precaution, inflows to Chestermere Lake were temporarily shut down for containment and cleanup while outflows remained open. Water levels are expected to be back to normal soon.
