Lethbridge police arrested a 39-year-old Coalhurst man in connection with two attacks on seniors earlier this week.

At just before 3 p.m. on April 22, police responded to a fight in the 700 block of First Avenue South.

Officials say a younger man had hit an older male in the head.

When police arrived, the suspect had already fled. The victim, a 76-year-old man, was taken to Chinook Regional Hospital for treatment of a serious head injury.

A second incident occurred less than an hour later, when a 69-year-old man was attacked while walking along a path in Indian Battle Park.

The victim told police he offered a friendly greeting to the unknown man who became irate and started to yell at him.

The man tried to walk away, but the suspect hit him in the head, causing minor injuries.

Each victim provided a description of the suspect, who was later identified and arrested by police.

Kurtis Lauren Babb is charged with aggravated assault and assault.

He was remanded into custody and is expected in court on April 24.
