Ian White speaks with Canadian content creator Julie Nolke about her upcoming one-woman show in her hometown of Calgary

Canadian content creator Julie Nolke is bringing her one-woman show to her hometown of Calgary next month.

Nolke got her first brush with internet fame during the COVID-19 pandemic when her video explaining the pandemic to her “past self” took off.

“I check it, and it’s got tens of thousands of views and then you go have lunch and you come back and it’s a hundred thousand views,” Nolke told CTV News.

The Toronto-based Nolke and her husband had been creating comedic videos for six years when the pandemic video struck a chord worldwide.

It now has more than 21 million views.

“It’s very surreal and unfortunate to have your 15 minutes of fame when everyone else is going through a very dire crisis,” Nolke said.

She performs her one-woman show, Dying on the Outside, at the Grand Theatre on May 3.

“The only challenge is that it is a one-woman show and so it is a lot of energy, and you have to have the audience suspend their disbelief because I play all the parts,” the Bishop Carroll High School grad says.
