Police investigating after report of human remains in southwest Calgary

Published:

A police search is underway in a southwest Calgary neighbourhood after a report that someone found human remains.

An investigation is underway after police received a report of human remains being found Thursday afternoon in southwest Calgary.

Police responded to a report of the discovery at the 3000 block of Spruce Drive S.W. at 3:13 p.m.

Investigators are now in the area, conducting searches.

No other information has been made available pending confirmation by the medical examiner that the remains are human and if the manner of death is determined to be suspicious in nature.

Officers were seen flying a drone to survey the area on Thursday afternoon.

Julie Barnes, a Spruce Cliff resident of more than 20 years, says she feels crime has been on the rise in the area.

So much so that the possibility of human remains being found near a popular walking path doesn’t surprise her.

“Not really. It shocks me. It saddens me. But it’s, I guess, part and parcel with what’s going on, unfortunately,” she said.
