The Calgary Police Service has shared a haul of weapons – including a long sword – officers seized during three separate incidents.
In a social media post Monday, police said officers have been patrolling “hotspots” for unsafe behaviour.
In the first incident, police arrested a man loitering in Franklin who was found with a black and red sword, approximately two feet in length, and another knife on him.
A woman was also found brandishing a hatchet near the Calgary Drop-In Centre on Dermot Baldwin Way. She was subsequently arrested.
Additionally, a man was arrested after police discovered he had an 18-inch machete, a set of brass knuckles that doubled as a spring-loaded knife, 6.5 grams of fentanyl and drug distribution paraphernalia.
The arrests were made as part of the Safer Calgary initiative, which aims to bring together City of Calgary peace officer partners to help address crime and social disorder.
“We will be working to address individuals demonstrating unsafe behaviour through enforcement, strategic patrols and compassionate supports,” Calgary police said in a February social media post.
