A Lethbridge family has made a major donation to help improve cardiac services in southern Alberta.
Shilpa Stocker, along with her father’s and sister’s foundation, have gifted $500,000 to help build the Southern Alberta Cardiac Centre of Excellence at Chinook Regional Hospital.
Stocker’s father has had cardiac health challenges, which led to the family choosing to donate to the centre, to help bring cardiac services to Lethbridge and southern Alberta.

“If we could make sure that those services are available here, so that we’re not just consulting but admitting here, so that folks like my dad, if they need it in the future, could receive that care all the way from admitting to discharge here,” Stocker said.
“This donation today symbolizes kindness,” said Dr. David Stewart, Alberta Health Services south zone medical director.
“This is doing something for somebody that’s not able to do it for themselves.”
The donation is just one of many going toward the centre, which has a goal to raise $30 million in 30 months.
