The Lethbridge Police Service welcomed its newest member on Wednesday.
Brandon, a two-year-old Belgian Malinois, is joining the K-9 unit.
Brandon completed his training and was honoured in a ceremony.
Supporting Brandon were other LPS members as well as the three other dogs that make up the K-9 unit.
After being awarded his badge, Brandon showcased what he had learned.
Both Brandon and his trainer will soon hit the streets to help protect Lethbridge.
“They have the ability to do what no human being can, right? Their nose is their strongest attribute,” said Terry Fieguth, LPS dog handler.
“I always use the example with kids when I’m speaking about the dog … when I look at a cake, you know, I smell something delicious. However, these dogs, they smell every single ingredient.”

Brandon is replacing former K-9 team member Zep, who retired last year.
Brandon will likely serve for the next eight to nine years.
