Mother Nature's recent shift in temperature has shuttered all outdoor skating areas in Lethbridge, Alta., effective immediately.

Mother Nature’s recent shift in temperature has shuttered all outdoor skating areas in Lethbridge, Alta., effective immediately.

Weeks of cold weather allowed for safe skating at Nicholas Sheran Lake and the northwest and east Legacy ponds.

A temperature swing of almost 40 degrees over the past few days has drastically changed conditions.

Ice thickness reports on Friday showed the areas comfortably met safety standards.

But by Saturday morning, water was visible.

While the ice might still be thick enough, the city is erring on the side of caution.

Up-to-date ice thickness conditions can be found on the city’s website.
