Alberta Health Services (AHS) has declared a rash outbreak at Calgary’s West Springs School.

The school, located 8999 Wentworth Ave. S.W., sent a letter home to parents and guardians explaining the outbreak was declared due to an “increase in the number of students with rash-like illness.”

In the letter, AHS says any child who develops a rash in the next 10 days should see a doctor, who can then order testing or prescribe some medication.

The organization also warned that germs that cause rash illnesses can be easily spread from one student to another, making it especially important for them to not go to school if they’re ill.

The Calgary Board of Education (CBE) noted in an email to CTV News that the outbreak is not related to measles cases, adding that the organization is enhancing sanitizing and cleaning measures in all of the school’s common areas and classrooms.

“Rash outbreaks in childcare and school settings are very common,” AHS said in a statement to CTV News.

“In 2025 to date, approximately 50 rash outbreaks in these settings have occurred within the Calgary Zone.”

As of Sept. 30, the CBE said about 600 students were enrolled.
