Royal Canadian Air Force honoured at Monday’s Field of Crosses Memorial ceremonies

Monday was Day 3 of 11 days of remembrance at the Field of Crosses Memorial in northwest Calgary.

Monday’s sunrise and sunset ceremonies were held in honour of the Royal Canadian Air Force.

Around 3,700 crosses are in place along Memorial Drive, paying tribute to southern Albertans who lost their lives serving their country.

In addition, 120 crosses represent the 120,000 Canadians who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Tuesday’s ceremonies will honour the Royal Canadian Navy.

The display was started in 2009 by Calgary philanthropist Murray McCann and the crosses are cared for by a group of volunteers.

Saturday’s ceremonies—the first this year—honoured young Canadians who served or supported from home.

Sunday’s ceremonies focused on memorial cross families.

The ceremonies will continue daily at sunrise and sunset through Nov. 11.

The Field of Crosses Memorial, located at 200 Memorial Drive N.W., is open 24-7 and is free to visit.
