An old scam is taking a new twist, according to the Calgary police.

They posted on social media that they are continuing to receive reports of scammers pretending to be them, right down to the phone number that appears when the scammers call.

The new twist they reported is that the scammers are asking for donations on behalf of the Calgary Police Youth Foundation.

“Currently, the @CPFYYC is not conducting any phone campaigns to solicit donations,” they said.

“In some of these cases, scammers have used technology to make it look like they are calling from legitimate Calgary Police Service numbers, including those of our district offices,” they said.

“The CPS will never call & ask for financial information or money, for any reason,” they added.

Anyone who has been scammed is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or contact on social media @stopCrimeYYC.
