Several southern Alberta communities have new mayors following elections

Ballot-counting is complete in several southern Alberta communities.

In Brooks, Norm Gerestein is the new mayor after John Petrie decided not to run again.

In Coaldale, incumbent Jack Van Rijn retains the mayor’s chair amid an ongoing labour dispute with town workers.

In Taber, incumbent Andrew Prokop wins again, beating former Taber and Blood Tribe police chief Alfred Rudd.

In Claresholm, Brad Schlossberger wins after he was first elected in a 2023 byelection.

In Crowsnest Pass, Pat Rypien is the new mayor, winning by a wide margin after longtime mayor Blair Painter did not run.

In Nanton, incumbent Jennifer Handley is re-elected for her third term.

In Redcliff, Chris Czember has been elected as the new mayor.

And in Coalhurst, former deputy mayor Deb Florence moves into mayor’s chair after Lyndsay Montina chose not to run for re-election.
