Thousands of Calgarians went hunting for Easter eggs in Beddington on Saturday.
BP Church hosted its annual community egg hunt, filling a field with stuffed eggs that were collected by kids as young as a few months all the way up to 12 years old.
“It’s just a great time for our community to come out, celebrate spring, and celebrate Easter,” said BP Church pastor Mark Williams.
Williams guesstimated that around 4,000 people would show up to search for 40,000 individually stuffed Easter eggs.
“There are hundreds of people that help stuff Easter eggs, then to put the field together takes a couple hundred people, to set everything up in a day and take it down,” Williams said.
He said the goal of the event is to bring the Beddington community a bit of fun.
“On Easter, we celebrate the resurrection of Jesus,” Williams said, “and we just want our community to come out and have joy in their life. That’s what it’s about: giving joy and hope and fun for our community.”

For Alyssa Olichny, who was there with a 7-month-old and a 2-year-old, the annual BP Church egg hunt is worth coming out for every year.
“We attend BP Church and every year they put on this event. We decided to come out. There’s a lot of people and it’s fun.”
As for the kids, Olichny said they haven’t quite mastered the egg hunt yet.
“At this age, it’s honestly just chaos. It’s fun running around, helping them gather it all up.”
