Two men charged in northeast Calgary deli arson; one still wanted

Calgary police have charged two men in connection with an early morning fire at a northeast deli in July, with one suspect still at large.

The blaze occurred just after midnight on July 8, at Alberta Halal Meat & Iraqi Street Food, located at 3745 Memorial Dr. N.E.

Fire crews from the Calgary Fire Department quickly extinguished the flames, which investigators later deemed suspicious.

No injuries were reported in the fire, but Calgary police’s arson unit launched an investigation following the incident and have now laid charges against two men believed to be responsible.

One 18-yuear-old man faces one count of arson.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 8.

David Carlton Deveau, 49, also of Calgary, has been charged with one count of arson and one count of break and enter.

Police say Deveau is currently wanted on warrants and are asking the public for assistance in locating him.

He is described as approximately 5’10” (178 cm) and 150 pounds (68 kg) with a slim build, light-brown hair and blue eyes.
