A southern Alberta man says he asked the cashier to double check his lottery ticket when he found out he’d won.
Don Dueck of Wheatland County, east of Calgary, won $100,000 on the March 14 Western Max and Extra draw.
Dueck bought his ticket from the Fas Gas in Strathmore and won by matching the last six digits of the Extra: 4453444.
“I took it to the cashier and told them what I had won,” he said in a Wednesday news release from the Western Canada Lottery Corporation.
“The cashier checked it and said, ‘You’d better add another zero, because you won $100,000.”
Dueck says he phoned his wife and asked her if she was sitting down before telling her the good news.
“We’re very excited,” he said.
As for how Dueck will be spending his windfall, he says the money will go toward bills and in the bank.
