So far, Calgary has dodged much of the snow from this spring storm system impacting Western Canada, but that is expected to change heading into Friday evening.

A low pressure system has been hovering over the U.S. West Coast and is now starting to work its way up into Canadian waters.
However, this system is not moving inland, allowing it to continue to usher in waves of precipitation into B.C., Alberta and even Saskatchewan.

This low has also pushed the jet stream further south, meaning Alberta is now under a cooler air mass, which is driving down our temperatures.
Calgarians will notice that temperature change this morning, with it being -6 C at the airport at 6 a.m. with the aim of getting to -1 C later this afternoon.
That’s quite a far cry from the usual 8 C high the city experiences at this time of year.

In addition to the cooler temperatures is that increasing chance of snow this evening.
Many models seem to be in better agreement today that light snow will start falling over Calgary at around 9 p.m. tonight and will continue into Saturday as well with a chilly high of -3 C.

On Sunday, expect a cloudy start to the day but conditions will clear nicely in the afternoon providing more sunshine and a high of 2 C.
While March isn’t quite leaving like a lion, it certainly will conclude on a below seasonal note.
