Wood’s Homes has received new grant money to help at-risk youth transition to permanent housing.

The money comes from a federal homelessness grant through the City of Lethbridge.

The funds will be used to build 30 home supply kits for young people moving into permanent housing.

The kits include a mattress, sheets, cleaning supplies and more.

Young adults aged 16 to 24 using Wood’s Homes programming can get the kits.

“The kits are vital in helping these young people just get settled into their home,” said Kelsey DesRoche, Wood’s Homes Opportunity Hub program supervisor.

“When you think about moving into a house for the first time, you have your damage deposit, your first month’s rent (and) if you don’t have any of those basic essentials, it just doesn’t feel like a home.”

Originally, the money would have only been enough for 20 kits.

But London Drugs was able to help stretch the money for 30 kits.
