‘Consistent with stab wounds’: Man, 41, facing 2 murder charges after double homicide in St. John’s

A 41-year-old man is facing two murder charges following a double homicide at a home in Newfoundland earlier this month, according to police.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) said Friday that Matthew Delaney was arrested and charged with two counts of murder. On Dec. 1, officers found two men, ages 38 and 53, dead inside a home on Aldershot Street in St. John’s.

“Working with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, the deaths were determined to be homicides, with their injuries consistent with stab wounds,” the RNC said.

Police say they arrested Delaney around 6:45 p.m. Thursday in the Water Street West area, following an investigation by the RNC’s Major Crimes Unit.

He was held to appear in court Friday, police added in a news release.

Man charged as accessory in shooting

In a separate release issued Thursday, the RNC says 23-year-old Logan Desousa has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder.

Desouza allegedly helped Ibrahim Hussein evade police following the fatal shooting of a 33-year-old man on Watson Street in St. John’s earlier this year.

Around 9:15 p.m. on April 8, officers responded to a report of a weapons offence in progress. Police say they found a man outside a home with serious injuries, consistent with gunshot wounds. He later died in hospital.

Hussein, who was 19 at the time, was arrested on April 10 and faced various charges, including first-degree murder and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

Police previously arrested and charged several other people with accessory after the fact to murder, as well as obstruction, in connection with the April 8 incident.

Desousa was held to appear in court Thursday.
