Tropical Storm Isaias has formed off eastern Mexico. Forecasters say it’s expected to strengthen into the first hurricane of the Atlantic season before hitting the U.S. Gulf Coast later in the week. Isaias was centred Wednesday morning about 285 miles west of Progreso, Mexico, and about 580 miles southwest of the Mississippi River’s mouth. The Miami-based National Hurricane Center said the storm had maximum sustained winds of 40 m.p.h. It wasn’t immediately known where the storm may make landfall on the Gulf Coast. The hurricane centre’s initial projections say the centre of Isaias could come onshore late Friday or early Saturday somewhere between eastern Louisiana and the western Florida Panhandle.
