One person is dead and two are injured after a crash in northern Alberta involving three semi trucks.

Shortly before 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Mounties responded to reports of a crash between the three semis on Hwy 63 at Range Road 173 about 150 kilometres north of Edmonton.

Upon arrival, one of the trucks was engulfed in flames.

One of the drivers was declared dead on the scene while another was taken to hospital with serious injuries but is expected to survive. The third driver had minor injuries.

The investigation lasted until 8 a.m. Wednesday.

Initial findings suggest poor conditions and visibility were the main factors in the crash, said police.

The highway is set to reopen some time later today once it has been cleared of debris and trucks are recovered by the associated companies.
