13-year-old boy identified as person killed at Edmonton train station

The boy was one of four youths involved in a fight at the MacEwan LRT station on Wednesday. The other youth, and one 18-year-old have been arrested.

The person killed at a downtown Edmonton LRT station on Wednesday was a 13-year-old boy.

The boy died of a stab wound and his death was ruled a homicide, the Edmonton Police Service said on Friday after an autopsy.

The 13-year-old, three other minors and an 18-year-old man reportedly assaulted a 34-year-old man and a 32-year-old woman at the train station, EPS said. The group and the pair didn’t know each other.

The 18-year-old man, named Destynd Jackson, and the minors – a 15-year-old girl, a 14-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy who cannot be identified – have all been charged with aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of an offensive weapon dangerous to the public in relation to the altercation.

Police have not said if anyone was charged with the boy’s death.

Homicide detectives are investigating.
