19-year-old found dead in northeast Edmonton, 21-year-old taken into custody

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in the stabbing death of a 19-year-old man in northeast Edmonton.

Police are investigating the death of a 19-year-old man in the city’s northeast that occurred in the early hours of Monday.

A news release said officers responded to reports of a stabbing in the area of 80 Street and 117 Avenue around 2 a.m. where they found the teen in medical distress.

Officers provided first aid until EMS arrived. The teen was declared dead at the scene.

A 21-year-old man was taken into custody in the area of Jasper Avenue and 101 Street shortly after.

The victim and suspect were known to each other, said police.

An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

Police are asking residents in the Parkdale neighbourhood to check their properties for any unusual items that may have been discarded following the incident. If you come across anything that appears suspicious, do not move the object and contact police immediately.
