2 more teens found guilty in deadly attack near Edmonton school

Two teenagers were found guilty Monday of manslaughter in a deadly 2022 attack on a student. Amanda Anderson reports.

Two more teens involved in a deadly attack near an Edmonton school in 2022 have been found guilty of manslaughter.

In 2022, a 16-year-old boy was swarmed in a field and he was shot at with an airsoft pellet gun and stabbed.

He died a few days later in hospital.

The teens or the school can’t be identified due to a publication ban.

From evidence heard at trial, the judge concluded the pair were in no way bystanders or observers. He also found one of the teens who had a field hockey stick struck the victim at least once.

While the judge says neither teen in this case inflicted the deadly injury, they were part of a joint endeavor to assault the victim.

Four other teens have been sentenced for their roles in the attack. While most have gotten probation, the largest sentence was handed down last week.

A teen who admitted to delivering one of the deadly stab wounds was sentenced to 18 months in custody and 18 months supervision through the intensive rehabilitative custody and supervision program.

A trial for the final teen accused in the attack is set to resume in March.

The judge says his decision was based solely on the evidence at this trial and that he has been careful not to inform himself of the other cases.

The pair will now have to wait, possibly months, to find out what their sentence will be.
