RCMP found a loaded shotgun and body armour in an SUV after a police chase in Fort McMurray.

On Tuesday, officers tried to stop a speeding red GMC Acadia on Thickwood Drive. RCMP said the driver refused to stop, making its way onto Gladstone Drive.

RCMP dog services were called to help and were able to block the path of the SUV, after which the driver tried to escape by backing up into officers.

The attempt didn’t work and Mounties were able to trap the vehicle and arrest six people inside.

During a search of the SUV, police found a loaded 12-gauge shotgun, a pellet handgun and hard body armour.

Charges were laid against four Fort McMurray residents who were inside the vehicle.

They include flight from police, failure to comply with release orders, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon contrary to order.

The two other people who were in the SUV were released on appearance notices.

No one was injured, but one police cruiser was damaged.
