Edmonton International Airport continues to feel the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The airport in a Monday press release said it achieved 97 per cent of pre-pandemic passenger volumes in 2024, a 5.6-per cent increase over 2023.

The number amounts to 7.92 million passengers.

Traffic between Canada and the U.S. grew the most, by 28 per cent, while international traffic increased by 7.5 per cent and domestic volumes remained steady.

Airport officials called the continued year-over-year growth a reason for celebration, alongside the completion of the new departures ramp, helping develop Canadian North’s flight simulator facility, expanding its drone delivery program and adding more restaurants and shops.

“YEG is a hub of innovation and growth, consistently evolving as a catalyst for the region and a critical driver for the visitor economy,” said president and CEO Myron Keehn.

The airport expects to continue to grow in 2025.
