Alberta appoints new justice in Edmonton

The province has appointed new justice Thomas O’Leary in an effort to increase court capacity in Edmonton.

O’Leary began his career in 2012 after receiving his Juris Doctor from Dalhousie University. He has worked as a Crown prosecutor with the Alberta Prosecution Service for the last nine years.

From 2018 to 2025 O’Leary served on the board of directors of the Crime Stoppers Association of Edmonton and Northern Alberta.

O’Leary’s appointment to the Edmonton Criminal Division of the Alberta Court of Justice is effective Dec. 1.

Over the last two years, the province has made 35 judicial appointments.
