An egg-cellent time to check out what’s happening in and around Edmonton this weekend

It’s the Easter long weekend and there’s plenty of on and off theme events happening throughout the capital region for those of all ages.

With kids out of school for a few days families might be looking to get out of the house and enjoy the spring weather, as long as the rain holds off.

From Easter extravaganza to a variety of musical events, here’s what’s happening in and around Edmonton this weekend.

Egg-cellent events

There are a plethora of Easter events happening in and around the city from egg hunts to decorating workshops and more.

In Edmonton, there’s the Magrath Campus Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday from 12 - 3:30 p.m.

Over at the West Meadows Baptist Church there is an Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The Woodcroft Community League Easter Egg Hunt is taking place on Saturday from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

Over in Ottwell that community league is holding its Easter egg hunt on Saturday starting at 11:15 a.m.

The Griesbach Easter Egg Hunt is taking place on Sunday at Roundel Lake from 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.

Over at the McKernan Community League on Saturday, Edmontonians can participate in a Bento Cake Decorating Workshop with an Easter twist from 2 - 3:15 p.m.

There’s also the Dip Dye Easter Egg Workshop at the The Carrot Community Arts Coffeehouse on Saturday with two sessions from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and 1 - 3 p.m.

The Muttart Conservatory is hosting the Easter’s Green Escape with a petting zoo, crafts and more on Saturday from 12 - 4 p.m.

For families looking to get photos with the Easter Bunny, Londonderry Mall, Bonnie Doon Centre and Cabela’s have you covered.

Venturing out beyond city limits you’ll find the Strathcona County Egg Hunt at the Emerald Hills Sports Pavilion in Sherwood Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In Stony Plain there will be an Easter Egg Hunt starting at 9 a.m. in four parks around the city, which won’t be revealed until the start time.

Beyond the bunny

For some spring fun minus the Easter theme, or just a bit less, there are other events taking place.

The Edmonton Valley Zoo in Bloom is happening on Sunday and Monday and will teach visitors about pollinators, host a scavenger hunt and more.

The Metro Cinema is hosting an All-You-Can-Eat-Cereal Cartoon Party on Saturday at 10 a.m. and has a mystery lineup with classic cartoons from the 40s to 80s.

The Carnival at Riverview Crossing is taking place over two weekends from April 19 - 21 and 26 - 28.

Spruce Grove is also hosting a spring carnival this weekend, April 18 - 21, and next weekend, April 24 - 27 at the Agricultural Heritage Society Grain Elevator.

Downtown Defrost is celebrating its 10th anniversary with a weekend of dance music at Winston Churchill Square on Saturday and Sunday starting at 2 p.m.

Edmonton-based folk musician Martin Kerr is performing at the Winspear Centre on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Fans of reggae can see Exodus – The Authentic Bob Marley Tribute at The Pearl Showroom on Saturday at 8 p.m.

For audiences looking for a “wickedly comical satire,” Radiant Vermin opens at Studio Theatre on Friday, with shows running until May 3.

It’s down the hatch at the Edmonton BeerFest on Friday from 4 - 10 p.m. and Saturday from 3 - 10 p.m. at the Edmonton Convention Centre.

Celebrating the spoken word is the Edmonton Poetry Festival, which runs at various locations in the city throughout April.
