Builder of Edmonton LRT line fined $120K for worker injury

The company working on the West LRT expansion has been fined $120,000 after a worker was seriously hurt on the job.

The firm building the LRT line extension in Edmonton’s west end has been fined $120,000 after a worker was injured on the job three years ago.

The Edmonton Court of Justice levied the fine on Marigold Infrastructure Partners after the company pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count under the Occupational Health and Safety code of failing to ensure equipment or material was contained, restrained or protected to eliminate potential danger, the City of Edmonton said in a Friday media release.

It’s related to a June 2023 case of a worker getting seriously injured after he was struck by equipment while a crew was completing post-tensioning of a segment of the LRT’s Valley Line West.

Marigold and crown prosecutors have up to 30 days to appeal the fine or conviction.
