Charge pending against man who left Evansburg crash victim near Drayton Valley hospital

An aggravated assault charge is pending against a man who RCMP say hit a person with a pickup truck, then drove them to a hospital.

Mounties were called just before 9 a.m. Wednesday to the Pembina Arena in Evansburg, Alta.

The driver of the truck allegedly hit a person who was on foot, put them in the back of his truck, and drove toward the Drayton Valley Hospital.

Mounties say the victim and the truck were found near the hospital by mid-morning. Police found the driver, who had fled the scene, and arrested him shortly after.

The Alberta RCMP Major Crimes Unit is now investigating “due to the extent of the injuries to the victim.” If charges are laid, more details will be released, Mounties said.

Anyone with footage of the area around the Pembina Arena between 8:20 a.m. and 9 a.m. or with dashcam footage between that area and the Drayton Valley Hospital between 8:30 a.m. and 10 a.m. is asked to contact Evansburg RCMP at 780-72703654. Anonymous tips can be made to Crime Stoppers.

Evansburg is approximately 45 kilometres north of Drayton Valley Hospital.
