Driver crashes while attempting to pass vehicle on shoulder Anthony Henday: EPS

Charges are pending after two related crashes on Anthony Henday Drive on Wednesday.

Emergency crews responded to the area of Anthony Henday Drive and Whitemud Drive north of Callingwood Road at 7:15 a.m.

Witnesses say a white Chevrolet Blazer was driving north on Anthony Henday Drive in a dangerous manner, reaching high speeds and passing other drivers on the shoulder.

The Blazer attempted to pass a Chevrolet Cruze on the shoulder south of the Whitemud Drive exit when it hit the Cruze, according to the Edmonton Police Service.

Both vehicles spun out across three lanes of northbound traffic, but did not hit any other vehicles.

A second crash happened as witnesses stopped to assist with the first crash, according to EPS.

The driver of the Blazer was taken to hospital for precautionary reasons.

Police did not provide any information about any other injuries.
