Edmonton man accused of damaging fence, fleeing on bicycle and stealing truck

An Edmonton man has been accused of crashing his vehicle into a fence, fleeing the scene on bicycle and stealing a truck in Strathcona County in August.

On Aug. 20 at around 2 p.m., Strathcona County RCMP were called after a dark SUV pulling a trailer crashed into a house fence on Range Road 214 and Township Road 512. The homeowner confronted the driver before he abandoned his SUV and fled on bicycle to a nearby wooded area.

Police say the man later stole a pickup truck from another property in order to leave the area. Several items were found on scene by officers, including a handgun, knives and other break-in tools.

The 35-year-old man from Edmonton was brought into custody with the help of Strathcona County RCMP, Crime Reduction Unit, Property Crime Unit and Police Dog Service.

He faces several charges including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, flight from a peace officer, resisting a peace officer, theft of a motor vehicle, unauthorized possession of a firearm, mischief and more.

A judicial interim release hearing has been set for Nov. 5.
