We’re off to a mild start to the day and should get to around 14 C under partly cloudy skies in Edmonton this afternoon.
Some showers developed on the eastern edge of the Edmonton region early this morning, but those have quickly moved east.
Wind becomes a factor through the afternoon with gusts to around 40 km/h starting midday and continuing through the afternoon and early evening.
A few scattered showers and possibly a thunderstorm will develop in central Alberta late this afternoon.
Most of that precipitation should be south of Edmonton, but there’s a slight risk of a shower in or near the city around supper time.
Showers in NE Alberta near a low pressure system will flip over to some wet snow this afternoon and then those wet flurries or rain/snow mix will push south tonight.
I think most (probably all) of that precip will miss the city, but there’s a slight risk of some wet flurries in the Edmonton area Wednesday.
Further south, we have the potential for some heavier snow through the southern mountain parks and in the southwest corner of the province tonight and early Wednesday.
Some cooler air gets drawn in from the north for Wednesday/Thursday as highs slip back to the 10-degree range in Edmonton.
AND...it’ll be windy again Wednesday - gusts near 50 km/h in Edmonton and across most of central and northern Alberta through most of the day. Gusts near 60 km/h are likely in east-central AB Wednesday afternoon.
We get another warm-up Friday/Saturday as afternoon highs bounce back into the mid to upper teens, then another slight cooldown for Sunday/Monday.
Bottom line: No significant moisture expected in the Edmonton area over the next few days, but a couple chances at some scattered precip late today & again Wednesday.
Gusty wind (especially in the afternoon) will be an issue for the next few days.
Temperatures will stay mild for the next five to seven days, but with some swings.
Warm today, “cooler” Wednesday/Thursday...warm again Friday/Saturday.
