Edmonton weather: Warm spell continues, temperatures dip slightly this weekend

Published:

Cory Edel's forecast for Thursday, April 10, 2025.

Another beautiful spring day with temperatures climbing about a dozen degrees above zero by noon and topping out in the upper teens later today.

Sunny skies this morning will give way to a few clouds this afternoon and the wind starts to pick up this afternoon - expecting 15-20 km/h wind speeds.

Wind will become more of a factor tonight and Friday with gusts in the 30 to 40 km/h range.

But, with some clouds moving through the Edmonton region tonight, temperatures should only slip to the 5-7 degree range Friday morning and we’ll hit the mid-teens Friday afternoon.

A broad Upper Trough develops for the weekend and brings a slight “cooldown” for Saturday/Sunday.

But...that cooldown only brings us back to around average for this time of year.

Mornings will be around the freezing mark and afternoon highs will be in the 10 degree range.

Temperatures bounce back to the mid to upper teens for next week.

No significant chance of precipitation for the Edmonton area over the coming days.

I can’t completely rule out the chance of a brief, spotty shower...but...no real moisture-bearing systems will move through the Edmonton region.

But...we WILL get some rain turning to snow across northern AB in the coming days and there’s some snow on tap for the mountains.

An area of low pressure drives across the north on Friday. It’s out ahead of that system that we’re getting the kick of warmer air today & Friday...and then the cooler air gets drawn in behind that system for the weekend.

Showers will move into the Peace Country tonight and then spread across the north from High Level to Fort McMurray Friday morning.

That precipitation will likely transition to wet snow for High Level and Fort Chipewyan areas through the day Friday and into Saturday.

Fort McMurray and areas around Lac La Biche/Cold Lake get a chance of showers early Sunday as the system pulls off to the east.

Saturday night/Sunday looks like the main “snow event” through the mountain parks and several centimetres of snow is possible, especially for areas south of Jasper down through Banff/Kananaskis.
