As of Friday, all of Lacombe County is under a fire advisory, meaning large-scale burn activities are banned for the time being.

The advisory was issued due to warm temperatures, windy weather and a lack of anticipated precipitation.

While the advisory is active, approved, minor burns and activities are still allowed, such as:

  • safe wood campfires;
  • bylaw-compliant backyard fire pits;
  • portable propane fire pits;
  • gas or propane stoves and barbecues; and
  • catalytic or infrared-style heaters.

Requirements for safe wood campfires include being attended at all times, the presence of enough water to safely extinguish it and placement on a rock, gravel, sand, or other non-combustible surface extending at least one metre around the fire, according to the county.

Drivers are reminded that off-highway vehicles can ignite wildfires, to check for debris and hot spots and ensure mufflers and spark arrestors are working properly.

There are 20 active wildfires in Alberta as of Friday, according to the provincial wildfire dashboard. So far, more than 140 wildfires have been extinguished in 2025.

Lacombe County added that the advisory could be upgraded to a restriction or ban at any time and will remain in place until conditions improve.
