The Fort McMurray International Airport was closed to all customers early Monday morning because of a water main break.

According to updates published on social media, the Rural Municipality of Wood Buffalo found a fire hydrant on the airport campus was the cause of a leak between the McKenzie Pump Station and Saprae Creek.

Normal water pressure to the area was restored and the airport reopened around noon.

Throughout the morning until the issue was fixed, the airport’s runway was only open to non-commercial events, such as medevac.
