Heavy snowfall impacting road conditions near Grande Prairie: RCMP

Grande Prairie RCMP issued a warning to the public about poor driving conditions Sunday morning.

In a statement, the force said that they are responding to multiple motor vehicle collisions across the city and rural areas due to poor road conditions and bad weather.

“The recent freezing rain, paired with the current heavy snowfall, has created very dangerous driving conditions,” they said.

The public is asked to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must drive are reminded to drive to the conditions of the road.

Environment Canada and Climate Change (ECCC) issued a snowfall warning for Grande Prairie just before 8 a.m. Sunday.

“A band of intense snowfall is bringing very poor visibility and quickly accumulating snow,“ the warning read.

“Total snowfall accumulations will be around 5 to 10 cm. The snowfall will move northward out of the area through the morning.

“Visibility will likely be reduced at times.”
