Here are some activities happening in and around the city this weekend. Edmonton Filipino Fiesta The 9th-annual edition of this festival comes to Louise McKinney Park Saturday and Sunday. Attendees can expect Filipino entertainment, arts, crafts and food. Philippine Edmonton Events and Arts Society, the non-profit organizer, says there are at least 64,000 people of Filipino descent calling the city home. Edmonton Elks vs. Calgary Stampeders: Labour Day Rematch The Elks are looking to earn a Labour Day sweep against the Calgary Stampeders on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. They outscored the southern city last weekend for a 38-28 road win. EPS vs. EFRS Charity Match Edmonton police and firefighters will face off in a friendly soccer match for charity on Sunday at the Edmonton Soccer Dome. Admission is free, but barbecue and concessions will support local charities. Barrel Fest Barrel Fest, a one-day festival featuring beer made in barrels, comes to Ritchie Park from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday. It’s the 4th-annual celebration of beer and cider made in wood, hosted by Blind Enthusiasm Brewing Company. Tickets will include a commemorative glass. A 100 mL pour is $4. Strathearn Art Walk and Music Festival This free, family-friendly art market and music festival begins Friday night with a beer garden and ends Sunday with more than 350 art vendors and live music performances. The scenic river valley festival has a full food and beverage lineup available online. Purple City A slightly less family-friendly music festival, Purple City celebrates everything eclectic. The multi-day, completely volunteer-run non-profit festival begins Friday and runs in multiple venues. Its aim is to create a “diverse, inclusive and progressive” event. A single-day ticket is $80. Women in Ninja Canada’s premier all-woman obstacle course, inspired by the TV show, American Ninja Warrior, invites athletes ages five to over 50 to Edmonton’s new Fitset Ninja facility for a weekend of competition. The event is also an official World Finals Qualifier.
