Increased police presence expected at High Prairie schools amid online threat

Schools in the High Prairie area will see an increased police presence as officers investigate a threat made online.

RCMP were informed of a social media post around noon Tuesday indicating a threat to one of the schools in the area.

A news release Wednesday said the shared video does not mention any particular school, but officers are working to identify the source of the video and the legitimacy of the threat.

Holy Family Catholic Regional Division superintendent Victoria Cornick wrote to students’ families saying they have been made aware of the potential threat involving E.W. Pratt School and High Prairie Elementary School.

“As a precaution, there will be a police presence at all High Prairie schools, including St. Andrew’s, while the matter is being addressed,” said Cornick, adding that the school remains open with classes proceeding as normal.

High Prairie is about 280 kilometres northwest of Edmonton.
