We’ll be about 10 degrees colder than average in Edmonton today and Wednesday, and then about 15 degrees colder than average for Thursday-Saturday.

So...it’s a few more days of just “regular cold” before the next “deep freeze” sets in and puts us back to where we were early last week.

A light dusting of snow in Edmonton and surrounding regions overnight and early this morning.

And, as expected, temperatures climbed slightly overnight. So, we’re about 15 degrees “warmer” this morning compared to Monday morning.

BUT...don’t expect that pattern to continue through the day. We’ll hold steady in the -14 to -17 C range through the morning and early afternoon hours before seeing a cool down take hold late this afternoon.

Some sunny breaks this afternoon and temperatures sliding to the -20 C range by early this evening.

Wednesday should start out in the -22 to -27 C range before climbing to the -12 to -15 C range in the afternoon and we’re looking at a mix of sun and cloud for Wednesday with a chance of some late-day flurries.

I think most, if not possibly all, of the snow will stay in western Alberta on Wednesday.

As I mentioned off the top, another blast of colder air drops in for the end of the week.

There’s some uncertainty with just HOW COLD we’ll get. Mornings could be anywhere between -24 and -31 C with highs in the -17 to -22 C range.

So, we’ll see how it develops. But, it’s probably safe to expect afternoons around -20 C and mornings in the mid to high -20s.

The longer-term pattern still isn’t showing much sign of significant warming until late next week.

Even early next week looks no “warmer” than afternoons in the teens and mornings around -20 C.

BUT...there is growing confidence that we’ll see a big thaw through either late next week, or through the weekend of the 22nd/23rd with afternoon temperatures climbing to around or slightly above zero and mornings in the -5 to -10 C range.

So...if you’re counting, that’s about nine to eleven days away (including today).
