LRT track rehabilitation to close south Edmonton intersection

A south Edmonton intersection will close at the end of June as part of the city’s ongoing work to renew LRT infrastructure.

The at-grade crossing track rehabilitation work begins at 51 Avenue and 111 Street from 10 p.m. June 24 to 6 a.m. June 29.

Material delivery and welding will take place June 18 to 24. During that time, one of the two left-turn lanes from both north and southbound 111 Street onto 51 Avenue will be closed from 6 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.

All left-turn lanes are closed in that area between 9:30 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Northbound 111 Street will be reduced to a single lane between Whitemud Drive and 54 Avenue during construction. Southbound 111 Street will be a single lane from 54 Avenue to the Southgate intersection south of 51 Avenue.

Nearby homeowners may hear overnight noise. The city says it will make “every effort” to reduce those impacts.
