It happened Sunday at SnoMo Days in Alberta Beach, about 70 kilometres west of Edmonton.

Mounties say the 41-year-old’s snowmobile collided with a parked truck in the parking lot at a “sudden rate of speed” around 10:30 a.m.

Emergency crews were called to the scene but were not able to save the man.

He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, according to RCMP.

Police are investigating whether there was a mechanical issue with the snowmobile.

Drugs and alcohol are not believed to be factors.

Family members have identified the victim as Mike Moore, a self-employed father.

A GoFundMe page has been created for Moore’s children.

“Mike’s passing has left his family with no income, and his children now face massive financial challenges,” the page says.

“Funds raised through this campaign will go directly toward supporting his kids—helping cover expenses for their activities, education, and daily needs—ensuring they have the resources to carry on his legacy."

A previous version of this story stated the victim was 35 years old, as the RCMP initially said. He was 41.
