Edward Steven Robinson, 34, has been sentenced to four years for killing Ivan Stamp in 2013.

Stamp was beaten to death near the Beth Israel Synagogue in west Edmonton and his death went unsolved for eight years.

His case was reopened in 2021 after a witness came forward and identified Robinson.

Robinson was arrested in 2022 and later admitted to the beating. He pleaded guilty to manslaughter in December.

According to the agreed statement of facts, both men were transient and would sometimes drink together in the area.

Robinson said he led Stamp to a secluded area and beat him because he thought the man was flirting with his girlfriend. Robinson did not seek help for Stamp, who died a short time later.

On Thursday, Robinson was sentenced. He will serve 190 more days under his four-year-sentence, having received credit for time served in pre-trial custody, and will be on probation for one year after his release.
