Most flights to, from Toronto delayed, cancelled at Edmonton airport

Published:

Flights to and from Edmonton have been delayed because of weather and a plane crash in Toronto.

The majority of the flights to and from Toronto at Edmonton International Airport (YEG) have either been delayed or cancelled on Monday.

As of mid-afternoon Monday, four of the eight remaining flights from Canada’s largest city scheduled to arrive before midnight at the airport are delayed while two have been cancelled.

The two flights still slated to be on time are late in the day: on Porter Airlines at 11:25 p.m. and on Flair Airlines at 11:40 p.m.

Three of the five flights to Toronto Pearson International Airport scheduled to leave Edmonton are delayed and one is cancelled. Just one flight from T.O., slated to land at 12:45 p.m. on Porter was expected to arrive on time.

Ottawa’s Professional Women’s Hockey League team, the Charge, told CTV News Edmonton on Monday afternoon its plane has been told to return to YEG.

The team said players and personnel were halfway to Montreal when they were told by the plane’s captain the flight had to turn around and return to Edmonton.

Heavy snowfall in recent days has been snarling several modes of transportation in Toronto and parts of eastern Canada, while a plane crash at Pearson ground air travel there to a halt until late in the afternoon.

In a statement to CTV News Edmonton, YEG corporate communications manager Erin Isfeld said while Pearson has resumed accepting flights, “it will take some time to know what that potentially means for our operations.”

“We advise passengers to check their flight status before coming to the airport,” said Isfeld, adding YEG’s website has real-time updates for arrivals and departures.

At least some flights that were supposed to land at Pearson today have been diverted elsewhere, including to Ottawa and Montreal.
