North-south traffic to close on 105 Street at 102 Avenue for LRT construction

Vehicle traffic on one downtown street will close and another will reopen next week as work continues extending the city’s latest LRT line.

The City of Edmonton said Friday in a media release that 105 Avenue at 102 Avenue will close to traffic both northbound and southbound while work continues building the Valley Line West.

The intersection includes an automotive repair/tire shop, a loft condo building and Alex Decoteau Park.

Meanwhile, a block east, 104 Street will open to north-south traffic after it had been closed for the LRT track work. Pedestrian access will remain with some detours in place. On Saturdays, 104 Street will be closed to vehicle traffic at 102 Avenue for the weekly farmers’ market.

The change is expected to begin on Wednesday, the city said. The city expects the avenue to stay closed between 102 and 107 streets until the end of the year.

Marigold Infrastructure Partners, which is building the LRT line, expects construction of it to be finished in 2028, followed by extensive testing.
