Police identify weekend homicide victim

Police are set to lay charges after a man was stabbed while sleeping outside the Boyle Community Services Building (10116 105 Ave.) on Saturday, July 30.

Police are releasing the name of the 44-year-old man who died Saturday after he was stabbed. Eric Dexter Janvier was asleep on a downtown bench when he was approached by man and stabbed.

21-year-old Monwat Akool Madood of Edmonton is facing a charge of second degree murder in connection to the death.

The victim was sleeping on a bench outside the Boyle Street Community Services building on 10116 105 Avenue around 3 p.m. when he was stabbed.

The entire attack was recorded by security cameras mounted on the outside of the Boyle Street Community Services Building.

The victim was taken to hospital, where he later died.

Janvier is Edmonton's 33rd homicide victim of the year.
