Ryan Nugent-Hopkins meeting fans in Edmonton Wednesday

Edmontonians who donated to the food bank had the chance to meet Ryan Nugent-Hopkins of the Edmonton Oilers.

Edmonton Oiler Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was scheduled to meet fans at Edmonton’s Food Bank Annex on 114 Avenue and 120 Street from 1 to 4 p.m.

The catch? Anyone wanting to connect has to bring a non-perishable food item to donate.

“It’s just a beautiful come-together moment where people will have this nice, intimate opportunity to meet Ryan,” said Tamisan Bencz-Knight, with Edmonton’s Food Bank.

“There’s a lot of buzz here, people are excited … everybody is bringing in beautiful donations and helping us do the work that we’re doing.”

Some of the food bank’s most needed items include canned beans, fish or meat, baby formula and diapers, peanut butter and healthy school snacks.

“Definitely canned soup and pasta sauce is a high need for us right now,” Bencz-Knight said. “Anybody can donate to us at any major grocery store, they can give online, because then we can purchase the items that we need.”
