Today should play out a lot like Wednesday in the Edmonton area. Clouds to start (with a few scattered showers in the region early this morning), and then some midday and afternoon sunny breaks. Don’t expect a LOT of sun, but we’ll get some breaks in the cloud. Then...hit and miss showers and thunderstorms will develop across much of the province in the afternoon, including the Edmonton region. Skies will start clearing this evening and we finally get a day of sunshine on Friday. Temperatures should climb into the low 20s in the afternoon and the wind looks relatively light. We may see some scattered showers/thunderstorms pop up in the evening, but the daytime hours should be sunny and warm. That won’t last for long. An area of low pressure develops over southern Alta. on Saturday and we’re expecting a large area of steady (heavy at times) rain over central and northern central Alta. Saturday into Sunday. The heaviest rain will likely hit western parts of those regions. There’s some uncertainty with just “how much” rain we’ll get in the Edmonton area. Right now, we’re looking at a wide potential range of 20 to 80mm. I think 20 is fairly unlikely, though. We’ll probably end up somewhere in the 40-70mm range by the time it stops on Sunday. Speaking of which - some model guidance has the rain moving out by midday Sunday and some keeps it over Edmonton through Sunday afternoon.Bottom line - it’s going to be a SOAKED weekend. There may be windows of a few hours here and there where it eases up or stops (and then returns). But, expect rain for MOST of the weekend. On top of that, it’ll be gusty both Saturday and Sunday, particularly Saturday. Oh...and cool too. Afternoon highs will be in the low to mid teens Saturday and mid to MAYBE upper teens Sunday. Looking further ahead, we’re still expecting an Upper Ridge to move in for next week and that should bring us some sunnier and warmer weather for the first week of Summer. The ridge probably collapses towards the end of the week, setting the stage for some late-day showers/thunderstorms Thursday and possibly Friday. But...we’ll be back to the low 20s Monday and then mid to upper 20s for Tue/Wed/Thu in Edmonton. Here’s the forecast for Edmonton and area: Today - Cloudy with a few showers early this morning.
