Another cool and cloudy day in Edmonton and across central and north-central Alberta. Temperatures hit a high of just 16 C on Thursday and we’ll be in the same temperature range this afternoon. There’s a slight chance of a few sprinkles in and around the city late morning/midday, but most of the Edmonton area should stay dry. The best chance for showers today will be in western and southern Alberta. The upper trough will finally start to shift east and it’ll be replaced by a short-lived upper ridge this weekend. That should bring back some clearer skies and warmer air. There’s probably still some clouds kicking around central and north-central Alberta Saturday morning, but we’ll get some sun in the afternoon and temperatures just slightly above 20 C. Sunny skies and into the mid 20s on Sunday in Edmonton. The ridge starts to break down early next week and we’ll get back into a cloudy, showery and cool pattern for much of the week. I think we’ll still get to the mid 20s on Monday with a chance of some late-day showers and/or thunderstorms. But, highs are projected to be in the mid to upper teens Tuesday-Friday with a chance of showers or periods of steadier rain every single day. That doesn’t mean it’ll rain non-stop all of next week... but we’ll probably get at least SOME precipitation at some point each day. Looking LONG range: Summer officially arrives on the Sunday, June 21. Aside from this weekend, it’ll be a cool end to spring. However, there are indications that we’ll see a lengthier string of days in the mid 20s through the first week of Summer.
