The Edmonton Food Bank scores donations with every Oilers playoff goal

Published:

The Edmonton Foodbank will be getting a donation for every goal the Oilers score during the playoffs.

The Edmonton Food Bank has around 85 more reasons to cheer on the Edmonton Oilers in their playoff push for the Stanley Cup.

The charity has teamed up with retail store Seven80, which sells clothing and other items from local producers and vendors.

Seven80 will donate money to the Food Bank for each goal the Oilers score in the post-season.

There are five stores in the Edmonton area.

“What’s cool about them is all these vendors are making decisions and pitching in together to a pooled collective,” Tamisan Bencz-Knight of the Edmonton Food Bank said.

She says about $85 per goal is being donated with the various vendors chipping in a few dollars each.

Last year, Seven80 raised over $8,000 with the same campaign.

“It’s a wonderful initiative,” said Bencz-Knight. “It just shows that community spirit and that community drive to not only celebrate the Oilers, but to support Edmonton’s Food Bank.”

The charity says they buy $4 million worth of food each year and serve over 40,000 people a month through their hamper program.

About 500,000 meals and snacks are provided to soup kitchens, shelters and schools each month, according to the Food Bank.

The puck drops at 8 p.m. Wednesday for Game 2 of the first round between the Edmonton Oilers and the Los Angeles Kings.
